1st Battalion
August 1914 : in Ireland. Part of 16th Brigade, 6th Division. - France/Flanders on 10th Sept 1914.- Left Germany April 1919.- Aden 10 Nov. 1919 - India 1 Dec 1920

2nd Battalion
August 1914 : in Secunderabad, India. Returned to England, landing at Plymouh in November 1914. November 1914 : attached to 80th Brigade, 27th Division. - France/Flanders 21 Dec 1914 - Salonika 4 Dec 1915 - South Russia 23 Dec 1919 (Batum, with detatchments at Tchakwa and Artvin) - Embarked for Uk 17 June 1919 - Ireland July 1919 - 1922.

3rd (Reserve) Battalion
August 1914 : in Shrewsbury. In UK until December 1917, when it moved to Ireland, where it remained.


Territorial Force
1/4th Battalion
August 1914 : in Shrewsbury. Attached as Army Troops to the Welsh Division. 29 October 1914 : sailed for India, joining the Middlesex Brigade of the Home Counties Division, landing Bombay 1 December 1914. Two Coys moved to Hong Kong in April 1915. 10 December 1915 : the other two Coys landed at Singapore, with a detachment in the Andamen Isles. On 13 April 1917, the whole Bn concentrated in Singapore. 29 June 1917 : landed in Plymouth, having moved via Colombo and Cape Town. 27 July 1917 : moved to France, landing at (Le) Havre. 18 August 1917 : attached to 190th Brigade, 63rd Division. 4 February 1918 : transferred to 56th Brigade, 19th Division.

2/4th Battalion
Formed at Shrewsbury in October 1914. 26 November 1915 : attached to 204th Brigade, 68th Division. Remained in England until being absorbed into the other Bns of the Brigade.

3/4th Battalion
Formed at Shrewsbury in May 1915. 8 April 1916 : became 4th (Reserve) Bn. Remained in UK until merged with 1st (Reserve) Bn, the Herefordshire Regiment in July 1917.

10th (Shropshire and Cheshire Yeomanry) Battalion
Formed in Cairo on 2 March 1917, from two dismounted Yeomanry units. 2 March 1917 : attached to 231st Brigade, 74th Division. - Palestine 1917/18 - France/Flanders 7 May 1918.


New Armies
5th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Shrewsbury, August 1914, as part of K1. August 1914 : attached to 42nd Brigade, 14th (Light) Division. 4 February 1918 : disbanded in France.

Formed at Shrewsbury, September 1914, as part of K2. September 1914 : attached to 60th Brigade, 20th (Light) Division.

7th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Shrewsbury, September 1914, as part of K3. September 1914 : attached to 76th Brigade, 25th Division. 15 October 1915 : Brigade moved to 3rd Division. 19 October 1915 : transferred to 8th Brigade, 3rd Division.

8th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Shrewsbury, September 1914, as part of K3. September 1914 : attached to 66th Brigade, 22nd Division.

9th (Reserve) Battalion
Formed in Pembroke Dock, October 1914, as a Service battalion, part of K4. November 1914 : attached to 104th Brigade, original 34th Division. 10 April 1915 : became a second Reserve battalion (after the 3rd Bn). 1 September 1916 : became 48th Training Reserve battalion of 11th Reserve Brigade.
