Reginald was born in 1898 and lived his
early life in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire. When the Great War broke out, he was
a cabin boy sailing to Africa and back on the Armadale Castle out of Southampton.
He lied about his age and joined the S.L.I. in 1914. During the war, he won
a Military Medal.
He was transferred to the Royal Lincolnshire
Regiment before the end of the war and served with them for about 20 years.
In the 1920's he had occasion to be an escort to The Price of Wales in Lincoln.
He was also chosen to place a wreath on a memorial to the allies with Russia's
Marshall Zhukov. This was in a newsreel, which his family saw in the cinema.
He finished his career as a Regimental
Sergeant Major after 34 years service.
